Plerion becomes first Australian headquartered software company to achieve AWS Security Competency status

Plerion also joins the AWS ISV Accelerate Program and became AWS Security Hub Partner; plans to forge new collaborations with AWS consulting partners and managed security service providers (MSSPs) in 2024.

Sydney, December 11, 2023 – Sydney-based cloud security start-up Plerion today announced it has become the first Australian headquartered software company to achieve Amazon Web Services (AWS) Security Competency status, which recognises Plerion’s deep technical expertise with security in AWS, and proven customer success securing the cloud journey with its unified cloud security platform offerings.

Plerion is on a fast growth path after it received US$10 million in seed funding – including backing from Atlassian Ventures – last July, with the aim to speed up product development, add more staff and develop partner centric go-to market strategies.

Founded in 2022, Plerion offers an all-in-one cloud security platform that helps customers proactively identify, prioritize and mitigate risks within their cloud operating environments. The company has doubled its headcount in the past year, with Australian and global customers including PayU, Deputy and MediaWorks.

First Aussie-based SaaS company to receive the AWS Security Competency status

Plerion has been working with AWS and going to market via AWS Marketplace; a curated digital catalog that makes it easy to find, test, buy, and deploy third-party software, data, and services that run on AWS; since its public launch at the start of 2023.

Throughout the year Plerion has also been recognised with the AWS Lambda Ready Software Products validation and was an early adopter of Amazon Bedrock in September 2023 to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-powered remediation capabilities to customers.

Achieving AWS Security Competency Partner status validates Plerion as an AWS Partner that specializes in delivering security-focused solutions for specific workloads and use cases.

Plerion has successfully met AWS’s requirements for providing cyber security capabilities and accelerating positive security outcomes for AWS customers for seven foundational categories including: Perimeter Protection, Identity and Access Management, Threat Detection and Response, Infrastructure Protection, Data Protection, Compliance and Privacy, and Application Security.

Plerion will be able to drive holistic security solutions and integrate and extending native AWS security services, including Amazon Guard Duty, AWS Macie, and AWS SecurityHub.

For Pierre Liddle, Co-founder & CTO of Plerion: “Achieving AWS Security Competency status is a real vote of confidence in Plerion’s unique capabilities, and showcases our credibility in answering market demand. With the Australian Government recently releasing the National Cyber Security Strategy 2023-2030, cybersecurity has never been more top of mind for Aussie organizations. Our expanded collaboration with AWS will provide a much needed holistic approach to security to all companies looking to make cloud security more simple.”

AWS is enabling scalable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions from startups to global enterprises. To support the seamless integration and deployment of these solutions, AWS established the AWS Competency Program to help customers identify AWS Partners with deep industry experience and expertise.

Announcing more AWS momentum and expanding MSSP recruitment

Last November, Plerion joined the AWS Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Accelerate Program, a co-sell program for organisations that provide software solutions that run on or integrate with AWS, enabling Plerion to double down on engagement with the AWS Sales organization globally.

Plerion also became an AWS Security Hub Partner, allowing customers to push context-rich Plerion insights into AWS Security Hub, extending AWSs native cloud security posture management service.

The opportunities brought by Plerion’s extended collaboration with AWS means Plerion will more than ever work with existing partners such as Digital Futures and DNX, but also looks to recruit new partners.

According to Mike Rahmati, Co-Founder and CEO of Plerion: “The cloud security market is booming, and with it comes a massive pool of opportunities to help customers simplify cloud security. Working more closely with AWS as well as expanding our collaboration with more MSSPs and cloud consulting partners in 2024 will be instrumental in expanding our ANZ footprint while driving successful security outcomes for customers.”.

Plerion currently offers free trials to help companies simplify their cloud security on AWS.
